Correctional Officer
Deadline: Continual Basis
The Correctional Officer I position is entry level correctional work in maintaining order and discipline and supervising the activities of inmates on an assigned shift in the detention facility. This position requires successful completion of the Correctional Training Academy.   Starting salary is $32,315. 
Requirements: Must be at least 21 years of age, with a High School Diploma or Equivalent, and possess a valid driver's license.

911/Emergency Communications Dispatcher I
Deadline:  Continual Basis
This a responsible, full time position at the Somerset County 911/ Communications Center where the employee will be expected to receive 911 emergency calls, dispatch fire, emergency medical services, police and/ or transfer calls to the appropriate agency. The employee should be experienced in performing clerical duties and computer functions.  Candidate should be able to type a minimum of 30 WPM.  All applicants must pass a complete and thorough background investigation; and are required to successfully pass a drug test and psychological evaluation.
Requirements:  Applicants must possess a valid driver's license, and be a high school graduate or equivalent. There will be pre-qualifying testing if less than one year experience as an Emergency Telecommunicator.  

Senior Planner/ Zoning Specialist
Deadline: Position open until filled
This is a responsible professional planning position requiring an advanced knowledge of the principles and practices of land use planning.  The employee in this class performs complex planning projects; provides policy input; and is able to work independently with minimal supervision.  The position also assists the zoning staff with the taking and entering of zoning applications data on the computer, forming a data base and assisting in map reviews and zoning questions for the general public. Starting salary is $48,139 annually, with a full range of benefits.
Requirements:  Graduation from an accredited four year college or university with a Bachelor's degree in planning or related field and a minimum of two years of professional planning experience. A graduate degree in planning, plus one year of professional experience may be substituted.  Full Job Description

Part-Time Groundskeeper (Great Hope Golf Course)
Deadline: March 12,2021 by 4:30p.m.
Groundskeepers are under the supervision of the assistant superintendent and the direct supervision of the Somerset County Recreation and Parks Director.  Performs routine manual labor involved in golf course maintenance; do semi-skilled grounds construction and maintenance work; operate small hand-powered equipment and be trained to occasionally perform work involving large equipment such as tractors, loaders and gang mowers.  Each groundskeeper may be assigned responsibility for the care and maintenance of several designated holes on the golf course and does related work as required.

Part-Time Cook/ Counterperson (Great Hope Golf Course)

An employee in this class provides food service/ counter assistance to patrons at the golf course.  The Restaurant Cook/ Counter person is under the supervision of the Restaurant Manager and under the direct supervision of the Somerset County Recreation and Parks Director.

Part-Time Highway Worker I (Roads)
Deadline: March 12, 2021 by 4:30p.m
This is a part time position beginning on or about April 5, 2021 and ending on or about November 15, 2021.  The work will consist of performing roadside grass cutting with county owned and maintained equipment. Applicants will be required to submit to drug and alcohol testing prior to employment. Starting hourly wage for this position is $14.11, with only the employee benefits mandated by law. 
Requirements: The applicant must have completed the eighth grade, possess one year of experience in a related field, have a valid Maryland Driver’s License, and be at least 18 years old. Some mechanical ability is desirable.  Full Job Description

Highway Worker I/ Motor Equipment Operator I  (Roads)
Deadline: March 12, 2021 by 4:30p.m
This is a semi-skilled position in the area of roads construction and maintenance.  Applicants should be able to operate light power equipment and be willing to learn to operate medium and heavy equipment.  Applicants will be required to submit to drug and alcohol testing prior to employment.  This job entails extensive outside work in all weather conditions. Starting salary is $29,352.00 for a Highway Worker I and $33,135 for a MEO I annually, with a full range of benefits.   
Requirements: The applicant must have a high school diploma or equivalent, one year of experience, and be at least 18 years old. A Maryland CDL isn’t required at the time of interview but is preferred. In order to be hired as a MEO 1 applicant must currently have valid CDL, a Highway Worker I candidate will be required to obtain a CDL within one year of employment.
