State's Attorney for Somerset County, Md.
Mr. Powell, a Somerset County native, is the son of Emma K. Daniels, a retired Worcester County teacher living in Deal Island and the late Robert T. Powell, a Princess Anne farmer. He currently resides north of Princess Anne with his wife Christine.
Mr. Powell graduated from Pocomoke High School in 1991 and attended the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY, for two years. He then transferred to Salisbury University, where he graduated in 1995, with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science.
From 1994 to 1995, he served as an acting Platoon Leader with the 1229th Transportation Company MDARNG in Crisfield, MD. From 1995 to 1998, he served as the Executive Officer and Platoon Leader with the US Army’s 97th Transportation Company in Fort Eustis, VA., where he was in charge of 120 people and $64 million worth of equipment.
After leaving the U.S. Army, Powell attended the University of Baltimore School of Law and received his law degree in 2001. After passing the Maryland Bar, he worked as an Assistant State’s Attorney in Baltimore County, MD.
Since returning home to Somerset County in 2005, he has served as Deputy State’s Attorney and County Administrator for Somerset County from August 2005 to March 2009.
Mr. Powell was elected State’s Attorney for Somerset County on November 2, 2010 and was sworn-in on January 3, 2011.
